WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE FUTURE OF IBM AND ITS SHAREHOLDERS?

Over the years, IBM has acquired many organizations with the most recent being The Adobe Workfront Consulting Unit and the largest being Red Hat Software which was acquired for $34 Billion! but how does a stock split differ and will this affect the future of IBM stock for its shareholders?
The 25th October 2021 was the record date for the distribution of Kyndryl stock which meant that for every 5 shares of common stock held in IBM on that date, each shareholder received 1 share of Kyndryl common stock which as of the 4th November began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ‘KD’.
Since the stock split, there hasn’t been much of a significant decline in the share price of IBM, however the same cannot be said for Kyndryl. Since the distribution of Kyndryl stock to IBM shareholders, the share price for Kyndryl has been on a slow decline, dropping as low as $16.89 per share when the stock market opened on this very Wednesday. Leaving many shareholders with the question, to sell or not to sell?
Prior to the stock split, IBM had claimed that the initial combined dividend of both companies would not be any less than IBM’s presplit dividend per share, however with Kyndryl not yet having confirmed whether or not they intend to pay a dividend, many shareholders may decide to cut their losses and sell the stock if there is a decline in the dividend pay-out.
So what does the future hold for shareholders of Kyndryl? As with any investment, there are great risks involved. But with the stock price for Kyndryl having plummeted considerably, some might just think this is the right time to buy more and more shares, as we don’t know what the future might hold for KD stock.
