For those of you that have not heard of a Medallion Signature Guarantee Stamp, the programme was introduced across North America to prevent cross border fraud and is required when transferring or selling North American securities.

In order to provide a customer with a Medallion Signature Guarantee Stamp, we would need to verify your identity, which raises the question: can a Medallion Guarantee be obtained after changing your name by Deed Poll.

Deed Poll Service

As a Deed Poll shows your new and previous name, many would assume that it would stand as a valid form of ID, however this is not necessarily the case. A Deed Poll only proves that you have changed your name, it does not prove what your name was, and it does not include information such as your date of birth, therefore only documentation such as a driving license, passport or birth certificate would suffice as valid forms of ID and not the Deed Poll itself.

If when applying for a Medallion Signature Guarantee Stamp through us you are expected to prove that you are who you say you are, but you have changed your name via Deed Poll, what documentation should you provide?

You would be required to prove your identity using certified legal documentation which can include a copy of your birth certificate, a copy of the Deed Poll and a form of Photo Identification, such as a passport with the change of name or driving license.
